Show Kolb- D 795 Q How much sand did you get in Narrow canyon? A Frequently there would be a bar or an island which did not come above -- call it an island; there is a channel on either side in the center of the river, not as much as there is in the open country, because it has sheer walls on either side. Q Did you experience any difficulty in Narrow canyon in grounding on sandbars or crossing bars? A I don't remember that we did. Q About what is the length of Narrow canyon? A About six miles. Q From there do you go right on into Glen canyon? A Directly below Narrow canyon the Freeman boat river comes in, the Dirty Devil, sometimes called. Q It is described on some of the maps as the Dirty Devil? A Yes sir; and the canyon practically ends there, we are in more open country; there are no wells near the river banks; it tapers off on either side, or slopes back. THE SPECIAL MASTER: On the map here the Freemont Muddy river is it the very opening of Glen canyon, the very start of Glen canyon. THE WITNESS: It is open where it comes in; the canyon has ended above there, a short distance above. THE SPECIAL MASTER: What canyon has ended above? A Narrow canyon. 2763 |
