SPENCER, a witness of lawful age, called by and on behalf of the complainant, having been first duly sworn according to law by the Special Master, was examined and testified as follows: DIRECT EXAMINATION BY MR. BLACKMAR: Q Will you state your name and residence to the court, please. A Arthur H. Spencer. Present residence, 3865 Xavier street, Denver. Q Mr. Spencer, what is your present occupation? A Oil man, Indian trader and oil man, little of everything. Q Have you ever been in the San Juan country? A Yes sir. THE SPECIAL MASTER: MR. Spencer, you will have to talk a little louder, both for counsel and the Master. BY MR. BLACKMAR: Q When did you first enter that country? A Came in on the San Juan river in 1878, when I was a boy. My Father started an Indian store there. Q Did you come with this Jones expedition? A No sir; we came the San Luis valley, Fort Garland, Colorado. 2655 |
