Show Spencer- D 703 A Well, no; I have seen it quite dry a good many times. Take it up east of Bluff in the sand flats, it is what they call an underflow, a little stream runs from one pool to another; but there was no water to amount to anything in the river. That is what we would call a dry season -- dry river. Q Are you able to recall what years you observed that up there? A Yes, seen it in 1883 the first time. Q Have you seen it any other years since then? A 1892, I believe; I am not sure; I believe that is the time. BY THE SPECIAL MASTER: Q Have you ever seen it entirely dry below Chinle wash? A In 1917 it got pretty dry, but it didn't dry clear up. We had what we call a couple of good irrigating streams running at Goodrich; it wasn't dry; it run all the way through. BY MR. BLACKMAR: Q Take at Goodrich in that year, how wide were those two irrigating streams? A They wasn't twenty feet across them. We had a lamb there only six months old that used to ford it, run across back and forth; you can guess what it was. Q That is what you call a small stream? A Yes. Q Wasn't used for irrigating purposes? A Oh, no. Q Have you seen other years when they have had low water similar 2671 |
