Show Spencer- C 708 Q What was it for? A Test the bed rock of the San Juan river for placer mine. Q Have any such tests been made right at Bluff? A Not only what they made, I suppose. Q Do you know whether any were made at Bluff by any one at any times? A There is a well down there drilled by Hansburger, out in the middle of the river now, where it has changed; they must know how deep it is; I don't know; bed rock. Q When you took your first freight in there, on your first trip, where did you start from and where did you deliver your freight? A We started from Mancos with a drilling machine, left it at Bluff City. Q That is the first job you had in the freighting line? A That is the first job I had; the next one was lumber. Q And where did you deliver the lumber? A Delivered it down at what they call Zone's camp, mouth of Nokai canyon. Q Where is that with respect to Bluff? A according to the roads, about seventy- fire miles west of Bluff; straight through it is only about thirty - fire miles, I guess, or forty. Q Is that on the San Juan? A Yes sir. Q Good road there, was there? 2676 |
