Show Hyde- C 655 There is a very large acreage of excellent land. which, supplied with water, would yield good crops, lying north of the San Juan river in San Juan county, Utah, which land could be irrigated by water from the Dolores river? A I will say there is thousands of acres of the finest land you ever laid eyes on, gravity grade from the Dolores river; if you have the water in Dolores river you can irrigate it. Q Are there not something like twelve thousand acres of very excellent bottom land in Montezuma Creek canyon, extending from east of Monticello to the San Juan river which could readily be irrigated by water from the Dolores river? A Barring the number of acres you have mentioned, because I know nothing about that; but there is a very great deal of very rich bottom land in the Montezuma wash, and the side draws from the Montezuma wash that would support a great large population of people, fertile, the best kind of ground you ever saw; that is under the Dolores water. BY MR. BLACKMAR: Q What do you mean by " under"? A Capable of gravity flow from the Dolores river to this ground; all the ground that you want, if the Dolores river were ten times the size it is. MR. FARNSWORTH: That is all. 2623 |
