Show 596 Hyde- D A Well, sir, I think we lived there a little better than three years. Q then where did you move? A My mother stayed there; my father went down nine mile below Bluff, at the mouth of Chinle wash on the one side of the river and the Comb wash on the other; there he put up another store. After he got it built, we moved down. Q About what year was that? A I couldn't tell you; I probably was fourteen or fifteen. I can't give you the date, I kept no record of that. Q At any rate, it was sometime between 1880 and 1890? A We landed in Montezuma the year after the first bunch came in there to Bluff from Cedar City. Q This was about eight or nine years after that? A No, it wasn't; it would be about four years after when we went from Montezuma down below Bluff. Q When was it with reference to the big flood? A You mean the first big flood? Q Yes. A Well, I think we had been there either two or three years at Montezuma when the first big flood came. Q After you went down there to the mouth of Chinle creek and established this store did you continue to ride the range in that country? A Yes, we did; when we went down there my father bought cattle from the Indians, traded a great many of our horses off for 2564 |
