Show Kolb- D 768 It was rather exciting at that point, swift water; there was a whirlpool on the other side of the river. But the whirlpool didn't reach clear across. And there was a lively riffle -- some people would call it a rapid -- just below this point, and we had to hurry to get across, and had to dodge in behind a projecting point of rock in order to make a landing to keep from being drawn over this rapid below. If we had been drawn over, we would have lost the horse, undoubtedly. My brother crossed many animals there, hunting parties going to the north rim. I was only in on one of those experiences, and I and no experience in running rapids before we started the trip, and I don't think my brother had run any real rapids, just good, lively water. We both had a liking for the work. Just tell me now, please, about your progress down the river, the character of the water. It was extremely low water when we started at Green River City, Wyoming.
