BLACKMAR: Q Is September a low or a high water month? A Your high water comes there, all the bad high water, in the fall of the year, these rains come; you take it in that country, it seems like the clouds come up, follow the Colorado river channel to the Ute mountains and the Colorado mountains; they kind of break up there, split, and part of the clouds go to each range of mountains. Seems like the mountains have an attraction for them. When that condition exists, we have regular torrential rains; when the sun is shining, a passing cloud will come over, and drops of clear water, I don't know how big, pour down for a few minutes; that washes right into the washes and comes into the river; that is what makes the sudden floods in August and September; they are the only bad floods we have; the spring floods are not so bad. Measuring it on the bridge, can you state about how far these floods will show on the bridge in feet, how high? You are covering a big range when you say " these floods"; floods from one inch to fifty feet, or forty feet, probably; you can't tell; you might sit on the bridge and the water 2586 |
