Show Hyde- D 607 BY MR. BLACKMAR: Q Were you in that country when the placer mining opened up? A I was there all the time. Q Were you familiar with placer mining down there, and what was going on? A Yes, I was. Q Did you sell merchandise to these placer miners? A Yes. Q How did they take their supplies in? MR. FARNSWORTH: You mean so far as he saw. MR. BLACKMAR: Certainly; as far as he knows. MR. FARNSWORTH: I take it it is not offered to impeach your other witness? You are not offering any evidence with any idea of impeaching your other witness? THE SPECIAL MASTER: The other witness said they were taken partly by boat, partly by road. I suppose there was no other way, was there? MR. FARNSWORTH: I think the other witness's testimony was very clear about the placer operations THE SPECIAL MASTER: He said they took them both ways. Wasn't any other way to take them, as far as I know. MR. BLACKMAR: This is a question of recollection, not a question of impeachment. MR. FARNSWORTH: If you are asking him what he personally saw, I do not object to it. BY MR. BLACKMAR: Go ahead. 2575 |
