Show kolb- D 797 San Juan. Q To the mouth of the San Juan we made the run in possibly three days and a half, I think. Down through that section we spent some time -- or lost considerable time trying to find the canyon where the Rainbow bridge was located; we didn't find it. We climbed out at one or two places to examine the country; at the Crossing of the Fathers, for instance, he climbed out to take pictures. THE SPECIAL MASTER: Is the Crossing of the Fathers the place called Role- in- the- Wall? MR. BLACKMAR: No, your Honor. The Crossing of the Fathers is the place where the Spanish explorer crossed, Escalante. The Hole- in- the- Wall is farther up the river. THE WITNESS: Yes, the Hole- in- the- Wall is above the San Juan; the Crossing of the Fathers is below. THE SPECIAL MASTER: Can you tell me about how far the Hole- in- the- Wall -- or Hole- in- the- Rock -- which is it? THE WITNESS; Hole- in- the- Rock. THE SPECIAL MASTER: Hole- in- the- Rock, how far is that above Lee's Ferry? MR. BLACKMAR: You will find that eighty- four miles above Lee's Ferry, marked on that other map. I don't believe it is on that one. MR. FARNSWORTH: About six miles above the mouth of 2765 |
