Show 586 Newkirk- D full? A I would say close to one hundred feet. SPECIAL MASTER: No witness has given any testimony as to what the width of this river itself is. BY MR. BLACKMAR: Q Do you know the width of the San Juan river at Bluff, Utah? A Well, at Bluff it spreads out over quite an area there. Q About how many feet, would you say? A The channel itself must be a quarter of a mile or more; the water varies back and forth from one side to the other in the flat. BY THE SPECIAL MASTER: Q What is in the canyon below Chinle creek? A Only about fifty feet, or a little more, in places. Q I mean the average. A Fifty to one hundred feet. BY MR. BLACKMAR: Q That estimate you make of fifty to one hundred feet, did that extend all down through the portions of the canyon that you saw? A Down through the canyon it appears to be very much the same, looking down from the rim rock, it is a steep, narrow canyon from Goodrich on down for quite a ways. Q What is the depth of that canyon? A Must be around five hundred feet in places, or more. Q What is the distance across that canyon on an average, from rim to rid? A Probably a thousand feet, on top. 2554 |
