Show Anderson- D 726 ferry riffle; we hit rocks there, and all the way down we touched bottom in several places, bad riffle about every half mile going down to the mouth of the canyon; hit them riffles more or less all the way along. MR. FARNSWORTH; Does he mean the San Rafael? THE WITNESS: Yes, the San Rafael. BY MR. BLACKMAR: Q On all those riffled, did you ground on them? A No, we didn't; we touched rooks, though, you know. Q Did you have any difficulty in that stretch of water in controlling the boat? A Yes, we had several places; just hit and miss, that is all we figured that, we took a chance on it, that's all. Q What made it difficult to control the boat? A so swift, wouldn't have time to change your boat in that distance, the way you are traveling: just had to go with the current; if the current took you down straight, it was all right; if you cross- wise, it was all off. Q Did you from time to time get crosswise of the current? A No, we didn't; we were lucky enough we didn't get crosswise. BY THE SPECIAL MASTER: A Who steered the boat? A I did. BY THE SPECIAL MASTER: Q who steered the boat? A I did. BY MR. BLACKMAR: Q In that stretch of the river is the channel straight? A No, it turns all around, every direction; one minute you are on 2694. |
