Show Lumnsden- D 674 Q Who was the pilot on this trip? A Charles Anderson. Q This town where the boat was built, Grand Junction, is on the Grand or what is now the Colorado river? A Yes sir. Q How did you get your boat into Greenriver, Utah? A We first thought we could ship it down the Grand river, build at in Grand Junction, ship it to Moab in the Grand river, but after going over the matter carefully, going down through the west water canyon and looking the proposition over, we found it impossible to put this boat down through there without hazardous risks, and we figured the boat was too wide to get through the narrow channel that gorges up the river, so we conceived the idea of shipping this hull on two flat cars to Green river, finish building the boat in Greenriver, which we did, put the cabins on there in that little town, and installing the machinery in the boat all at Greenriver. Q Before you started out on the maiden trip with this boat did you have a preliminary survey of the river made? A Yes sir, we did of the Green river, and also of the Grand river. Q Who was the pilot of your boat? A Captain Charles Anderson. Q Was he one of the men who made this preliminary survey? A Yes sir. BY THE SPECIAL MASTER: Q What do you mean by a " survey" 2642 |
