Show Hyde- RD 656 REDIRECT EXAMINATION BY MR. BLACKMAR: Q Mr. Hyde, did you operate that large ferry the year around? A No, we operated it when the water was so deep the Indians couldn't come across with their ponies. Q About how many years was that, or how many months of the year? A I only had it a season and a half. Q About how many months in the year did you operate it? A I would say three months. Q Did you find that ferry especially attractive to the Indians? A We found the Indians clear across the reservation would come over there to ride on a boat that wasn't pushed nor pulled with anything. Q You kind of had it on the rest of the traders there for a while, didn't you? A Yes, maybe; they all had schemes. Q This original colonization in that part of the country was a church project, wasn't it? A Yes, I was; there was miners and some trappers, some stock men in there when the settlers arrived, but the settlers that came in and formed these colonies were all called by the Mormon church. MR. BLACKMAR: I think that is all, Mr. Hyde. 2624 |
