Show Hyde- C 639 Q When did you first have knowledge of any placer operations below Bluff? A After we moved to Rincon, at the mouth of Comb wash. Q Were they going on when you moved there? A No, only men would come in from the Colorado mountains, the miners up there, down there to winter with their burros; then while they were wintering, through three or four winter months, they would prospect, the bars, and a little gold. Q Was that going on when you arrived at Rincon? A Yes, every winter I know of. THE SPECIAL MASTER: What is the year when he arrived. BY MR. FARNWORTH: Q You went to Rincon about 1885, I think you said? A Three or four years after we landed at Montezuma. Q Then every winter since you have had any acquaintance with that territory, there has been placer mining on the various bars on the San Juan river; is that correct? A I don't know if it is or not, the way you out it. Q I just want to save as such time as we can. Most of these question I think you could answer yes or no, almost. ( The stenographer read the preceding question as follows:) " Then every winter since you have had any acquaintance with that territory, there has been placer mining on the various bars on the San Juan river; is that correct?" 2607 |
