Show Hyde- D 602 A The roads we had in those days, it took us two weeks; we generally figured we could make it in two weeks. Q Was that by ox team? A No, we freighted with horses and miles. Q How long a trip was it in those days from Montezuma so Bluff. A Seventeen mile, we always called it, from Montezuma to Bluff. Q How long would you take to make that trip by wagon? A If you had any load on, the kind of stock we had, and the sand in those days, you would make it empty in a day; if you had a load on, take you two days. Q Is there a town in there now called Montezuma? A No, there is not. Q Nobody lives at Montezuma? A No sir. Q Later did you get any freight from Thompson or Thompson Springs? A We got freight from Thompson Springs years after, yes; Long before we got freight from there we used to take our livestock, drift them out from our country over the base of the Blue mountain, down through Moab, across the Thomson Spring desert, sell them at Greenriver, Utah. We made lots of trips there, but nor with wagons; the roads were and made all they way through there; couldn't get out that way with wagons. Q At Moab, how did you cross there? A You mean cross the Green river. We just went into ti and crossed it, that's all; sometimes have to lay over until the water went down, and sometimes could ford it very easy; in 2570 |
