Show 585 Newkirk- D A Down near Moonlight creek. Q How many times did you cross at Moonlight creek? A I believe just once, two crossings, one round trip, crossed over and then back again. Q Do you recall what month that was in? A No; I expect it was in May, first part of May. Q How was the water then? A It was still during the low water, what we call the low water stage. Q Did you cross there on horseback or on foot? A Horseback. Q How deep was the water? A The way I remember, it was about up to the horse's belly. Q Did you have any difficulty while you were in there with sudden rises of the San Juan river? A Not along the river itself. Q Did you observe such sudden rises at any time? A Some of the side streams. Q What side streams? A Principally Moonlight creek Q Is Moonlight creek one that runs all the year around? A No, it is dry most of the time. Q What experience did you have on Moonlight creek? A During the month of August we had quite heavy rains; at times it would come up in an hour or so and be running bank full after a heavy rain or cloudburst, and go down in a few hours.
