Show dLEAGUE MEMBERS RE\'lE\V \ll(tMEN - FOR AMERICA - - FOR THE WORLD The discussion following the film prnduced the usual frvely assortment of news and ideas for action that makes me proud to be a League member. This film is a collection of sanestatementsfromintelligent. rational women from across the country. It is our kind of movie" LiesaManuel 'The film brought the bland statement that 'Funding for children's needs has declined while funding for the nuclear arms race has increased.' . down to a very personal level. The women's statements and statistics were very powerful and I could easily envision the impact that.large numbers of people making similar statements would have and how it could change the course of the U.S. Government as it did with the Vietnam War. '' Ruth Ann Matsuo "Yl' omen- for America, For The \Vorld" has inspired me to take a more active stance against nuclear buildup and military spending. I believe the message in this film will inspire manypeoplel womenand men alike to take action for a more peaceful and livable world for everyone. It is time people join together to work on peace , rather than ignore the severe problem of the over supply of nuclear weapons." C. Carlisle ''\Vomen - For America, For The \Vorld\vas a "turnon". Two of the stathtics in the film were: "5% ofthe 1986U.S. Militar~vbudgetwouJdliftevery A.merican child in need out of poverty." "4 days' worth of world-wide military spending each year would end all starYation. " I have taken pride in the achievements of the LWV in the more than 50 years I have been a member. We have proven to be a respected organization worthy of attention. The film could be a tool in our hands in arousing othe.rs to participate in making a safer world. It doesn't take the multitudes to bring about change when the course is justified. A few knowledgeable. well informed people have changed undesirable principles before. I have made arr-angements for the film to be shown at the November meeting of the American Association of Retired People and possibly at The Utah United ~a- . tions .t\.ssociation, and I will open my home to neighbors and friends. I would like to see \lS use the film for the purpose it was intended." LaJette Fenton "My first intended responee was a brief one: For all children. how can we not work for peace and freedom from nuclear threat. But after seeing a program on the devasting effect of Chernobyl on the Laplanders of Sweden, I must pass on a quote from another woman for peace; "The Americans are doing it, the Fren~h people are doing it, we can't just blame the Russians for Chernobyl. " Peggy Eble "I am excited to report my reaction to the film shown at tlle L v.,rv General meeting on September23, 1987.
