The Utah County League is ca11i ng attention to the follwi ng problems 'w'ith the project: This last point causes a great deal of concern from a public 3afety stand poi ot. Bureau of Reclamation engineers say the proposed dam cou1d witt,stand an earthquake up to 6.5. The one that is being predicted for this area is 8 or 8.5. An additional factor is a self-induced earthQuake that bodie3 of ,,,ater can generate. Utah County leaguers are unconvi need thst these studies have been conducted regarding the hazards of fioodi ng and the r~ultant impact on the people 1iv1 ng in Ut3h Valley. In the light of these problems and on the basis of league positions,. the Utah County League fa urging that land aquisition for the Jordanelle Dam, re3ervoi r .. and road 3ystem3 3hould be halted until the Bureau of Reclamation complies folly with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA)# prepares • an inundation study, snd complie~ fully with Section 7. The draft supplement to the final environmental statement reveal3 that change$ have occured in the project si nee the final environmental statement was filed in 1979. The location of the dam 'w'as changed 200 feet upstream} 'w'hich doubled the acres required for the project ( 9846 to 20 J495 acres}. The roads 'w'ill be lengthened from 15 to 32. 9 miles. Fi Ye miles of the Provo River .......m be eliminated. -Joan Auger .............................. 1972 drilli ngs found sandy clay at 175 feet .. then Andesite Porphyry (Teton Dam formation) at 308 feet. Another hole found i ntensel 'J fractured chips and fragments and joi nt3 and alot of water st 368 feet. The bureau of Reclamation has done extensive drilli ngJ but nw they intend to excavate a hu9e area., determine 'w'hat is there, and then choose ...,here to put the dam.
