Show UT AH AND THE SECOND WA VE OF SCHOOL REFORM APRIL STUDY: THE SALT LAKE CITY WATERSHED MANAGEMENT PLAN The Wasatch canyons provide a beautiful setting for Salt Lake Collllty as well as a source of water for its citizens. The very first local study item for the Salt Lake League was the study of a "soundly planned and adequately financed system of water purification." The quality of water is impacted by the activities which take place on the watersheds above the valley. As develoµnent has occured in the canyons, the League has also studied canyon planning and zoning in the 1970's. The Utah Educational Seminar will feature Dr. Dean Honetschager, Director of the Nati ona 1 Governors· Association Education Project, will explain the reform goals and programs of the NGA's Time for Results project and give his view of the second wave of school reform on Thursday, Apri 1 I 6 at noon at the Panorama Room of the University of Utah student union. The pressures from canyon development continue to mount. Last year, the Salt Lake City hired a consultant to look at watershed management in the seven Wasatch canyons. The material provided with The voter for the April meetings is an "enriched" executive summary of the plan. The meetings focus on general canyon watershed management, issues for the anerging Salt Lake County Canyon masterplan to be released in 1988 and water qualityquality objectives. We have included the various management options for each canyon, which will not be part of unit discussions, for mercbers information. We hope that individuals will use the information to write their own comments during the public comnent period.
