Show L.W.V. DEBATES The League of Women Voters of Salt Lake, in cooperaton with KUED-TV, will sponsor a series of televised candidate debates for the United States Senate and Congressional district races. The first of the six debates, a pre-primary confrontation between Democratic candidates Terry Williams and Craig Oliver, will be televised live on August 6th. The Senate and Second Congressional District debates are part of the National League's Agenda for Security project funded by grants from W. Alton Jones and MacArthur Foundations. Funding included an April workshop in Washington, D.C.. which was attended by Salt Lake President Gigi Brandt, State President Di Allison, Senate Debate Project Manager Madge Fairbanks and 2nd District Congressional Debate Manager Marlene Riley. In the two day workshop the Utah League members learned to negotiate with television stations, prepare the format and questions for a debate, promote the event and administer the grant funds. The Salt Lake and Utah Leagues plan to use the series as an educational tool in both high schools and colleges. Packets of the debate materials, including national publications geared to teaching students how to watch a debate and judge a candidate, will be distributed for classroom use. If you are interested in receiving this material please contact Madge Fairbanks (272-3435) or Marlene Riley (266-5207). -TE L.W.11. 0€B#ff:ES tn€ u€B~t'€S Ulll..L B€ t'€1..€V1S€u ON: August 6th August 13th October October October October 8th 15th 22nd 29th November 5th Democratic State Primary Republican 2nd Cong.
