"I don't have time to be an active League member. •· I have heard this remark freq uentJ y during the nearly 20 years I have been a League member. But how much time does it take tobea League member? Can you find time to give two hours a year'? Two hours can be utilized registering voters. answering the telephone in the League officeforvoterregistrationand information, hosting a meeting in your home, contributing refreshments for a meeting, assembling the VOTER one month, giving a speech to anothet· orgrutization, or working in some capacity fora contribution. This is being a active League member. Can you spare two hours a month'? If so , you can at•- tend unit meetings once a month, serve on a study committee, serveonacallingcommittee, observe a governmental bodyoralegislativeinteriumcommittee or represent the League on a variety of boards and organizations. That's being active in the League. Can you spare one to twenty hours a. week? If so, you can serve on a League board doing any number of exiting jobs. (Currently the Salt Lake League needs board membersinthearea of publictran.sportation, phum1ng and zoning, education, and local government. )That's being really active in the League. Many feel that being an active League memberrequires a great deal oftime. It is true that the more you give, the more you'll get. .. but every mi11ute counts. The decision as to how i1wolved you want to be is yours-don't feel guilty, feel proud that you have taken some time to becomeinvolved.
