R stand the bored om of just laying around doing nothing, so they were always in some kind of trouble .. stealing jeeps, they stole everything they could get their hands on. They'd go raid for chickens so they could make their own meals, you know. ~i~ I didn't have one guy that really had anything vicious, they were all a bunch of hell raisers, fighters •. they'd get in trouble where ever they'd go, but nothing like rapists, nothing like that kind of thing. They wererl~t really mean, you ~ean? ~Tell, so~e of the~ were ~ean in their own right, but .•. let's put it this way, they were all guilty of acceptable crimes.' We ended up with one hell of an ammunition train. They had a lieutenant that didn't ¥~ow what the hell his job was, and I had 27 men, 3 buck sergeants and a staff, and I was supposed to have my own trucks and we didn't even have enough trucks for me to have ~y own, you know, we had a caravan of our own trucks ••• not caravan ••• convoy; we had to carry our own ammunition ••• ! was supposed to have my own trucks, but we didn't have trucks even to go into combat. We had enough trucks to go into combat, but we didn't have it the way T.O. said, the T.O.E., that's the Table of Organi-zation and Equipment. So, we used to have to pull trucks from the different batteries. But, there we were, no trucks, a whole bunc of guys that wouldn't listen to a lieutenant anyway, and had a lieutenant that didn't know what ~ he was acing, but I want to tell you something, we did a job. We did a job and came out with such a thing as loving each other. There wasn't a man in our outfit that didn't respect another man in the outfit. There wasn't a |
