K Mr. R Mr. K Mr. R Mr. K Mr. R the police station one day, I was asked to go to the police station one day, and I did and there were a whole bunch of men drilling i in the gym. One of them was Ben Roe. He was a World Wa,r./ veteran. ~ere he was drilling with these other guys with arms, of course, they weren't loaded for their drill in the gym. They were going through the manual of arms ••• I'm not talking about them being out on the field running mock battles or anything like that, that was to come at a later date if it was ever to come. So, if you ask me did people know it, hell, part of the police had been out round-ing up these World War I fellows and other interested parties, and they were involved with that. So, if you ask me if there were people that were aware of this and knew about it, I'm sure that there were any number, but the great majority of the people were not aware of it. The great majority were not aware of it. Right. But, now Ben Roe, when he was there in that gym drilling that day what was he conscious of that he was there for? - r, ,.-- f"' \ He was the}.underground movement, he was~_ the combat arm of the counter underground movement. Did that group have any name? I'm not aware of a name. Row many people were there when you went there, approximately. I'd say 75 to 100. Were they all World War I vets, or just Ben was an outstanding one? I didn't pay that much attention. They didn't strike me as being |
