You mean the opposite of my ••• the same as my feeling in a different direction, or as related to the same thing that the Mormons are very close to the Jews? Did she feel closer to you because the Mormons, in general, seem to have felt closer to Jews? I don~t think we ever thought that deeply. I think our relation-shin was only on a one to one relationship, and the needs of each of us were. I think that answers that. v\,Y never sat down w1 th any philosophical "well, we Morlllons are very, very partial to you Jews" Our relationship wasn't that. I saw a very, very beautiful girl, :r J' /- and I found a girl that after a bitfseemed to have every thing I J needed, and the next thing I know all of a sudden, well, she had a lot that I wanted ••• my needs weren't taken care of, and that's the best way I can explain it. That may be overdramatizing 1t or over-simplifying it, I don't know. I'm trying to answer your question •• we didn't bring the whole cosmos into my relationship ••• I'm not that kind of individual ••• my life is me. So, you came here for the bed, you said. Did you work? How long were you married to the girl? Well, I married her in 1933, that was my last year in law school, and we got a divorce, I think, in '36 or '37. So, by that time you were living here? Oh, yes. I finished law school and then came here. I passed the bar in October 1934. That's where the poverty came in because the was no way to get a practice, didn't have any money to open an office. See, 1f you touch the right chords, you know, then I can |
