Right. I don't mean a welco~ing in the home, I mean in the synagogue. You've got a kiddish made and there's always been made a k1ddish ••• the old time synagogue was a hotel, it was where you ate your meals, you know, if you were a stranger and had no other '/' - ·' ~ ( r ' • I • place to go or 1f) the community warded ~ accomodations for you. ~o, that's the purpose for the kiddish in the ceremony, but ;ta.pe t2 for candles I'm not quite sure. Did they ask you to join B'Naie Israel? When you say "they", I would be inclined to say no. But, in this community for a long, long time they were advocating dual memberships, and I never became a member of B'Na1e Israel. I never understood that. They were really advocating dual member-ships? Yeah, they didn't care where you went, they needed the money to support them, that's why they were advocating dual memberships. Now, for what years can you remember that being done? Well, I think it preceeded my being aware of it. When did you become aware of it? That's too tough a question to answer. I guess when I was recog-nized, when I was mature enough, and was recognized as possibly having the money so I could afford both. I was never asked that when I didn't have the money. Well, I know when I had the money, but I don't really know when they suspected I might have the money. So, when did you join Montefiore? Before World War II. I didn't too frequently go, you know, in my earlier days, but I joined and I started going reasonably regularly |
