Of course, his story as I got it later, and you got it later, was that he thought that it was Germany all over again, the police are looking for him. This Stan Butcher was a policeman at the time. So, he came up and I started talking to him and I was trying to convince him that I was Jewish and yiddish but I learned later that that didn't necessarily satisfy Gene because they had Jews in Germany that would sell you for a buck. You know, that's a horrible story over there, it's not all Jewish glory. So, he didn't have the slightest idea who I was and why I was there except that he was convinced that I was Jewish, but he was still worried about the thing. I kept telling him that he didn't have to worry, that this was the United States o~ America and he didn't have to whisper. God, he couldn't get his voice above a whisper. And he didn't have to whisper and he could talk right out and he could say anything he wanted to and he could even say no if he wanted to . and we couldn't do anything, but we needed his help. "Well, what do you want me to do?" uwell, we have a letter for you, and we want you to read it." I can't remember if we brought a letter with us or not, I believe we did. ffWe got a letter for you, and we want you to read it for us." "Will it get me in trouble?"
