I had one professional fight in my life, and that was so I could eat, and that was in Evanville, Illinois, a little suburb of Chicago. I had nothing to loose at that time, so I stopped and went 1n, and in those days for t:. ·~., .:: , you see, they always knew the headliners were going to show up, so if they had maybe 6 t-r: ·· r 1 they'd book 15 fights and figure they'd have a card out of what would show up, especially when a guy like me would come along and want my money in advance. So, I got $6 worth of tickets that they sold outside the place for $.50 on the dollar, so I got $).00 for fighting 4 rounds. When was this'? '31 or '32, because in '33 I was in law school, and this was befor law school. So, during this time did you fight other fights or ••• Amateur fights, sure. Yeah, I was in quite a number of those. Did you fight in clubs in Colorado? I' ; ., , n- ro ,....,. _, tD ~ Usually in ) schoo~, but then we'd go out into different clubs and fight amateur. Jt that time we weren't permitted to fight 1n tournaments, or we would lose our school eligibility. So, you were on the school team, too? Well, I was on a school te~m ••• 1t's kind of hard to say, and to be careful about that •• the first year we had a team I was team, and then one guy got killed 1n the ring~ his head bounced off that floor about that high, and so they did away with boxing in what was then, I think, the Rocky Mountain Conference.
