Show Rose (1/25/83) page 5 Mr. K Mr. R Mr. K Mr. R Mr. K Mr. R Mr. K Mr. R Mr. K Mr. R was a tremendous sympathy toward the Jewish people. I didn't come in contact with antiSemitism in the sense that the people hated the Jews and it was obvious and that we were all getting it. I think the sentiment was in the area in which I moved, social and business, tremendous sympathy for the Jewish people for what was happening to the Jewish people in Germany. People have told me, not in specifics, but there was a sizable pocket of fascist or pro-Nazi activity in the area. Now, that depends upon about when you're talking. When you get into .. Is that heresay, or is that something you also found? Up 'til now we were talking about the 30's and about the growth of the feeling. Right. What I was giving you ••• You were giving me your sense of what was happening to you •• As it was happening from the 30's going into '34, '35, '36. In my area of soc1ety and I would venture to say the major imvolvment of the Jewish community with the Gentile society was one where they encountered a sympathetic feeling toward the Jews in Germany; we didn't need a sympathetic feeling. The sympathy that you did meet, did it kind of low people or did it activate them to do more? I was talking about my genera17 social, economic environment. There it didn't activate me to do any more, it didn't motivate me to do any more, it didn't llll:lt-:; me to sleep. The people, what you had growing as you got into say past 1939, or perhaps even :,:.;4_~c.'r you know, like in this community we had what was called a M1mon1t1es |
