Show Rose (1/2S/83) nage ? Mr. K Mr. R own business. And there was a number of the~? w ,. Yes, there ~a number of the~. They were all over the county here, all over the valley, I would say. I was not aware of where they a ll were, but I guess everybody knew where at least one was. There was a bakery right across the street from what would be the south end of the Auerbach building on State Street. Now, if you project a line along the south edge of that building and project it across the street to the east side of the building, there was a German bakery there, and that top floor was the\Verein meeting place. There was another on 9th south near 9th east, another meeting place. A big social club, that's what it amounted to. No ~atter how you get it up on the face, extensively that was it, and so far as I know, they had been here for years, certainly the one on State Street had been there every year I'd ever been in Salt La~ City. My father had a fur shop right around the corner from them. He was about as far east on Jrd south as they were south on state from the Jrd east corner. That one was certainly there for years that I knew and had a history, at least as I accept it for the moment, as not being anything new. There was another one on someplace between 7th and 9th east on 21st south on the north side of the street. ~i~ I had no reason for picking these out, so that's why the locations are particularly vague to me. Those stand out, that is to say, those stand out from the vague locations from the rest of them because I was aware that there was a substantial n~m-ber of them. They were like cells in an overall organization, that would be about the best description I could say. |
