Show 2. Several years ago I wrote some articles and sent them to wildlife people I knew in the west for comment. All said I needed direct contact with the region. This, I have had now for 15 months living in Utah. And, I think I have a catchy approach to environmental Issues - so I can interest the general public for whom the articles are aimed. So, each day, I plug away at this idea, at CRCUP efforts, at clca ning cupboards, clothes, bedding, etc. and then collapse at night. It's the only way I can keep my sanity back in this conservative backwoods community which is self-complacent,.Insulated, and uninterested in anything beyond its boundaries'.!.' It's better to live v/here there is some stimulation to the mind - even where issues are so deadly as in Utah - than to be walking around alive physically, only. O.K. -- /. A CRCUP Newsletter. I've written Brent asking him if he would provide background information for a CRCUP Newsletter on the Washington scene - updating what was accomplished^ and" where we have to go. Then we could put together an update from Utah and include resource loss information, costs, alternatives, etc. If the Sierra Club wants to write a "paragraph" signed, or to co-author such a newsletter, we could consider this, but let's see how it will work out best so we keep our own identity. Dick Carter does superbly well at these periodic newsletters. Uses both sides of one legal size paper. That's enough. Margaret provides drawings here and there and I could do this. Ji~*4*A, a/os-e^f - We'll need to get a mailing list from Sierra Club, V/asatch Mt. Club, Audubon Society, etc. I don't know whether Dick will cooperate on this or not. He Is making an effort to separate the wilderness and the water issues on the Uintas for political purposes. In order to pursuade anti-wilderness elected officials in Utah (which is all of them) to support wilderness, he doesn't want to hang himself, politically, by taking away their CUP baby, also. I sympathize with his problem, so we'll work around this. We can assemble names of people we know or know about and get a mailing list started. 2T c/f0 C^^ <c X^tLsyoJL >K^jLrj ^Ljt - •*" 7^ cfccup y^^i ** *****^&- y^^^ i &<AJX I'll start working on this soon and you people can discuss f^c^ needed contents at a meeting. Brent says our Issues Paper ill ^^U. already has made a difference in Washington. So, let's be astute, informed, and politically shrewd in how we prepare our #2. 3> Membership Drive I'm drafting a form for a Membership Drive - so we can raise some more $$$$. I've spent the $40 I came home with from, David Freed on xeroxing and mailing and will need additional funds to cover recent expenses. Have to draw up an accounting for Freed of all monies given me and hope to get this done soon. 3T c^-r- zMLfltt OtnJzAtfiu, . SLrd/ 3 A^/fM Mil* ft/ (Mt/ jyj>^ v% |
