Show Supplementary Information, Region IV, Forest Service Management This is the same Region IV, which has failed to support its management obligations for public resources since the late 19 50's and has transferred and silenced staff members trying themselves to protect resources: - in logging the Idaho batholith, subsequent rainstorms washed soil Into the South Fork Salmon River, destroying the anadromous fishery since then - late 19 5 0Ts - early 19 60's. (salmon and, I believe, steelhead trout) -in failing to fund, repeatedly requested, monitoring of the healing of tnePsouth Fork Salmon River - requiring independent, ocular evaluation, on private time by a specialist. * ***n eas^-nE out the District Ranger (Ed. Heikkenen) who opposed the logging (Detailed story, - Dorothy Harvey) - in destroying publications relating to the logging, and stream destruction; most recently in apparently walking off, at a meeting, with the critical remaining document on the South Fork which was required for the January 19 7 8 appeal before Chief McGuire on behalf of the concern for continuing planned logging, in the South Fork Salmon River Planning Unit. McGuire rejected appeal. - in complete!}* failing to try to protect wildlife and recreation resources on Caribou National Forest from phosphate ore T mining in southeast Idaho. Forest liidges are ? stripped, 150 foot headwalls and enormous, miles-long canyons dug. A Regional Planner could get no cooperation, and quit; A District Ranger, opposing location and construction of a mine dump above the irreplaceable Black Foot River, was transferred; other personnel was silenced. Wildlife biologist took me in his home for two weeks, allowing me access to sources of information, trying to stop development.
