Show N o v e mb e r 1 ] , 19 7 8 1^15 N. 10 St. Manitowoc, Wis. 5*1220 Fred: I'm sending you copies of some material I've already sent to Barbara Polich, along with a bunch of additional material, some on two proposed legal suits. I had assumed that she would reproduce some of this and pass it around where needed. Before making my comment to the Forest Service on its violation of the law on Carter's water policy, Executive Orders, and Administrative Directives, etc., I talked with Brent Blackwelder. He mentioned that a suit was all ready to go - so I told him I had drawn up two possibilities. He seemed interested in the Guardianship idea and so I forwarded to him a bunch of background information supporting the idea of the suits as well as the proposed suits. I told him that I had to work through my CRCUP Group, first, to see what their intentions were or possible interest in a suit, so, I haven't heard back from him. I suggest that you people look over what I have proposed and if you are__not interested, let me know. I have already informed' Brian Beard that I have drawn these urT~but that I wanted to work' through our Group first. If CRCUP isn't Interested, I would like to present the ideas to other conservation groups - provided that Brent decides to go whatever direction legally he had originally intended. O.K? Fred, I have forwarded a great deal of background information relevant to the failure of the Forest Service to deal with Water Policies from the Administration, to: Counsel on Environmental Quality, Office of Management and Budget, Secretary of Agriculture, Rupert Cutler, John McGuire, and to Wm. Eichenberry, Interior. Some of the accompanying comments I'm sending you. I have more to go - and do this as I am able. (I assembled all that material a week ago Friday out of the back of my car way out on the west side of Madison in a State Office Parking lot where I had just had an eye check to renew my driver's license. A quiet place, nice breeze, and no interruptions I And, a post office two blocks away!) I have mailed such information to Jim Young and am awaiting his call to me next week - relative to my forwarding a letter to President Carter that his Dep't of Agriculture is violating the law. Then, Trout Unlimited and the F.F.F. can follow suit. What we need to do is to divide the Forest Service from its buddy-buddy relationship with the BuRec. and get It to do its job. I'm suggesting to Hartt Wixon that he write some newspaper artiele5relative to this. Let's get the Forest Service on the defense in the newspaper - against the State, <s^ t^^Jt Xjit (^fcc Other things As you can see from my personal communication, there is no way I can come back to Utah in the immediate future and stay. I'm working, on a newspaper column Idea I've had a long time, and if I could make some $$$, I could get back and forth to Utah and not neglect whatever will be needed for helping my husband. As he says, if I could afford to fly between the two places occasionally, I could keep more directly in touch with activities - as needed. |
