Dear Brent: I have some more material to forward you relevant to comments on the Forest Service South Slopes Planning and EIS. This letter is a separate kind of issue in which I would like to explore some ideas with you - and get some advice. Life being what it is, one has to take what comes. What is unfortunate, is that I couldn't have remained in Utah maybe six months longer- Because I was trying to understand the newly released Economic Analysis of the Bonneville Unit and the Van Dam reports and other technical data, and prepare an Issues Paper on this, rather than on the environmental issues, I didn't have the time to really get a functioning organizatToh <0,</&/«r going in Utah. Or, maybe this wasn't possible in that time span anyway. It had been my intention to have group eetings for purposes of discussing issues - the workshop typey since many Trout Fishermen, as well as citizens around, do not understand the CUP. Well, summer was a poor time to get groups meeting and I wasn't yet prepared to discuss all issues. In addition, our Group composition hadn' tj; winnowed out - slack people falling away and dedicated people working. Anyway, the CRCUP Group is meeting every three weeks in Salt Lake City. The Group is. attemtpting to keep the CUP issues before the public and to write the Administration. Their coordination with me, as of now, is poor, and the Group operating in Utah now is more legally minded and dialogue minded than activist oriented. This is where my absence leaves a big hole. I am getting going on preparing a membership form and mailing as well as starting the Issues Paper £2. Fred Reimherr will provide the stream information - which he is good at. (M,/cs lost, cl&*^ I thin£t however, that it is time we prepared a marling which could go along with a membership drive. And, I can prepare this but I don't have the Washington based information to provide. Where are we today on what Units of the CUP and where do we go in our efforts now/""" Dick Carter, Utah Wilderness Rep. was superb at this type of information. His constituency was always kept UP to date on what the next step was. I doubt if my Group In Utah really are able to keep up with ongoing developments or stalematesJMS They aren't yet working with Governor Matheson - for some reason ^*^Mn having rejected this Idea. They don't tie in with other environ- ^ mental Croups , except as Brian Bear^,Conservation Chairman, of Sierra Club, Logan, Utah, and student, keeps me informed or |
