Show To the Right Honourable PEREGRINE, Lord Marquils of Carmarthen, &c. M Y LORD, BEing equally a Stranger to your Lordfhip, and the whole Nobility of this Kingdom, fomething of a natural Impulfe and afpiring Motion in my Inclinations, has prompted me, tho' I hazard a Prefumption, to declare m y Refpect. And be the Succefs how it will, I a m vain of nothing in this Piece, but the Choice of m y Patron ; I lhall be fo far thought a judicious Author, whole principal Bufinefs is to dciign his Tories an Offering to the greateft Honour and Merit. I cannot here, my Lord, ftand accufed of any fort of Adulation, but to m y felf, becaufe Compliments due to Merit return upon the Giver, and the only Flattery is to m y felf, whilft I attempt your Lordfhip's Praife. I dare make no ElTay on your Lordfhip's youthful Bravery and Courage, becaufe fuch is always guarded with Modefty, but lhall venture to prefent you fome Lines on this Subjedl, which the World will undoubtedly apply to your Lordfhig.
