BY MR. FARNSWORTH: Q How about your engine, did you have enough power? A No, didn't have enough power. Q On your trips from the head of the Cataract up to the Slide, what progress did you make? MR. BLACKMAR: I didn't understand him to say he went to the head of the cataracts. BY MR. FARNSWORTH: Q Did you go to the head of the cataracts on one of those trips? A I did. Q Coming back up, what progress did you make? A Very slow; we called is six miles from the first cataract to the junction; I just happened to remember we was two hours and fifty- eight minutes making that. Q So it took you practically three hours to make that five miles, or whatever that distance is? A Yes sir. Q Did you fefrain from attempting to aseist the engine at all over that course? A No; I told the boys to leave it alone, not help it; wanted to see whether we could make it with the current. |
