Show 7321 Turner- C 5301 BY MR. BLACKMAR: Q How many such canoes have you used? A I have used them from my boyhood. Q I am talking about on the Colorado. A Only this one I have used, but I have been over the river a whole lot with this canoe. Q Why do the people on the river down there prefer these flat- bottom boats to canoes? A Because they haven't had the experience to use any others. Q That is lighter draft than a flat- bottom? A yes, and it cuts the water sharp. Q Easier to handle? A No suction behind; a square- ended boat, when you stop your power, your boat stops, with that suction behind. BY THE SPECIAL MASTER: Q What part of the river have you come up in a canoe like that? A What part? Q Yes. A I can go up the river as far as Cisco in a canoe of that kind. Q Have you ever been up from the junction in a canoe like that? A Sure, I have. Q Have any difficulty coming up against the current? |
