Show 7316 Turner- D 5296 A About six weeks; I was one of the first ones to go on the garage boat. Q During that period I wish you would tell the court what if any trouble was encountered by getting on sandbars or otherwise, because of conditions in the river. A Of course we got on some sandbars, which we expect on any river; had a little trouble; can't go through smooth all the time; sometimes we might be on a half hour, sometimes a little longer, but we never was detained very much, -- but what we made our trips in two days. BY THE SPECIAL MASTER: Q You mean your round trip, or trip down? A The round trip; we wasn't detained that long; we made trips, -- loaded up with twenty tons and unloaded, and made the trip in a day; it is forty miles. Q You mean the round trip? A Yes sir, the round trip. BY MR. FARNSWORTH: Q What occasioned your getting on sandbars when you did get on? A There wasn't an experienced man running the boat; he is a good practical man in every other way, but he never had experience on the water, which you know a man can't work against the water, he has got to know it. Q Who was it in charge of the boat at that time? |
