Show 7376 Wolverton- D 5356 A Yes sir. Q What did you do when there were periods of driftwood? Could you run? A Oh, yes, we would run, but we frequently damaged the paddles some. BY MR. FARNSWORTH: Q During what time of the year does there come driftwood on to the river, any time that there is a heavy rainfall, or what time? A Always with high water in the spring there is driftwood. Q Was it ever of such amount gravity that you kept off the river because of it? A No; I might explain that the driftwood usually follows the main channel: if the water is high, that is when most of the driftwood runs; it is in the channel. You can dodge to one side. Q What has been you occupation, Mr. Wolverton, with reference to the channel of these rivers, the Green and the old Grande, that is, that section of the Colorado river up from the junction, -- have you found the channel to be stable or unstable? Does it shift around, or what about it? A I have never found any great change excepting when a flood came in from the side, and for a few hours, perhaps the channel was hard to find. |
