Show 7283 Johnson- D 5263 BY MR. FARNSWORTH: Q AND Have you taken more than one trip with coal as freight? A Yes sir. Q Who was in charge of the boat during this period that you were at work on it? A Virgil Baldwin. Q Who ordinarily piloted the boat going down? A Virgil. Q Who ordinarily piloted the boat coming up? A Myself. Q How would unload your cargo at either end? A We had a gasoline hoist and a crane. Q Did you use that in unloading all of your heavy freight? A Yes sir. BY THE SPECIAL MASTER: Q What kind of freight did you bring up the river, Mr. Johnson, if any? A We hauled boat tools, such as stems and bits, things like that, that had to come up to the shop to be repaired. Then we hauled oil two or three different times, crude oil. Q What amounts, would you say? A Well, I believe we would haul from eight to ten tons; this is just kind of an approximate guess. |
