Show 7306 Patterson- D 5286 navigation did you encounter on the two trips that you speak of as having been taken on the smaller motor boat? A None whatever. Q Hung up on a sandbar at any time? A No. Q Can you tell approximately the dates when you made these trips? A Only by other events; the first time I was down there on the large boat was shortly after the No. 1 well blew in that encountered some oil down there; it was shortly after that, perhaps two or three weeks after that; and the other trips were in the next succeeding months. Q Prior to those trips that you have spoken of, had you ever taken any trips on the Colorado river in a motor boat? A Yes. Q About what time was it? A Well, it would be back in 1910, 1911 or 1912, some-where in there, I can't recall the year; but it was in a boat that was built there by Merkins; I think we called it the Merkins boat, perhaps; it had some name, too, but I have forgotten the name. Q Describe that boat, will you? A It looked more like a box than it did a boat; fifteen or eighteen feet long, and six or eight feet wide. I think there was twelve or fifteen of us on this boat. |
