Show 7318 Turner- D 5298 " Q. Has any work or money been spent, so far as you know, during the years that you have been familiar with the Colorado river, in improving its navigability?" A No sir; the only thing I saw -- there is a little ice gorge they had to shoot; I didn't see that. BY MR. FARNSWORTH: Q You didn't see that, yourself? A No sir, I didn't see it. Q Do you know of any characteristic or condition of the Colorado river or of the Green river, so far as you have navigated them, which would interfere with the navigation of those portions of the river in a boat of two feet draft, handled by one who know the river? MR. BLACKMAR: I object to that. He has not testified that he knows anything about the operation of boats with two feet draft. I don't think he is qualified. THE SPECIAL MASTER: Of course, all this witness has done is to pole a row boat up and down the river; I don't think he is qualified to express very much of an opinion on the operation of other boats. I think you have had better witnesses on that. MR. FARNSWORTH: I offer to prove in the judgment of this witness there would be no difficulty in operating a boat of such draft, -- so the record may show what I expect to prove. |
