Show 7311 Turner- D 5291 get kind of tired poling; it wasn't because we couldn't pole; it was a little rest to us to get out, where there was bars or sand; we would maybe tow along a little piece; there was no trouble; I could have poled it along just as fast. Q In going up the Slide, how would you get up through the Slide? A No trouble going around the Slide, at all, only I couldn't get bottom with my pole, that was all, about fifty to one hundred feet. Q Was the depth of such character there you couldn't use your pole? A Couldn't get the bottom; I could have pushed up over, easy. Q Have you ever had occasion to sound the depth of water at the Slide? A I used about a sixteen- foot pole, fourteen to sixteen; of course, I couldn't get bottom. If I could shove the pole straight down I probably would get bottom, but in pushing your boat you have to have your pole back to push out. Q You have never really tried to sound how deep it is there in the deepest part? A I couldn't say; I know I tried enough so I couldn't strike the bottom with my pole to get any pressure to shove the boat up stream. Q How much of a lead did you take on those trips you have made? |
