Show 7268 Anderson- 5248 BY THE SPECIAL MASTER: Q What did you have down there, a house or a log cabin or camp or what? A I just had tents; I planted some stuff there. REDIRECT EXAMINATION BY MR. FARNSWORTH: Q What stuff did you plant there? A Well, I planted some sugarcane, for one thing. Q With what result? A Within sixty days' time that grew ten feet eight inches high; when it was up pretty well I put a stake down and measured it; three inches a day. Everything you planted there was wonderful. Everything you raised in the vegetable line was high in flavor. I raised onions, lettuce, turnips, carrots. Everything grew fine. Q Do you know whether whose bottoms were withdrawn, any of them? A They were withdrawn, I believe, for the government. Q When, -- it what year? A Well, that was about 1912, I think; I wouldn't say sure, but along about that time. Q Had you abandoned your place down there up to that time? |
