Show 7285 Johnson- D 5265 somewheres along there, and from the 20th of May to the 10th of June they have the highest water. Q In the high water stage what if any difficulty did you encounter in operating the barge up or down stream? A Scarcely any in high water. Q Going up stream in high water do you follow the channel or the current or just how did you manage your boat generally speaking, in coming up stream? A We would keep along what we called the dead water, along the bank, pretty close to the bank most all of the way. Q In coming up in that manner, was that the shallower water, too? A Yes, it was the shallower water. Q How did you avoid sandbars? A During high water the sandbars were all covered, mostly, plenty of depth. Q In coming up stream in high or low water on any occasion when you did get on to a sandbar, state what difficulty there was in getting off. A Did you say up stream? Q Yes, going up stream. A There was not much difficulty, at all; all we had to do was just reverse the engine, the current would help us off, as a rule. BY THE SPECIAL MASTER: Q Which year was this you worked seven months? |
