Show 7276 Cooley- D 5256 A Sometimes I stopped over night. Q Did you ever see wagon- loads of lumber come down the road to that place while you were staying there? A I have saw the teams come in there in the evening when they would come down from the mountains and unload there in the evening; other time when I was here I didn't see any teams. Q Now, on any of those rafts that you accompanied, Mr. Cooley, what if any difficulties were encountered on the river? A We never encountered any difficulty at any trip I made. Q About how many board feet would you say you took down on one of those rafts? A Well, at times we would take, if the water was low, we would probably take ten or fourteen thousand feet; if the river was high, good stage of water, we would take twenty or twenty- five thousand feet of lumber. BY THE SPECIAL MASTER: Q What is your recollection on about the size of the raft? A Sir? Q What is your recollection about the size of the rafts that you went on? A Well, all of them were in three sections; our lumber was ordinarily from twelve to twenty- four feet; my recollection we never hauled any longer than that; and we had them from |
