Show 7228 Blake- D 5208 up the Slide on that trip? A The current looked pretty swift for the speed of our boat, and there was a side current coming over the Slide on the north shore, north side of the river, and Captain F. C. Roff decided it would be less trouble to go through that, and we walked right up, crossed the Slide; it was slow going; the boat and the current were so near of a speed that we probably were five minutes going through that one hundred yards, as near as I can remember. Q When you used the expression you walked right up, what did you mean by what? A Walked up the river. Q You used the expression, " we walked right up the slide". A That is a figurative expression only; we were in the boat, and the speed of the boat and the speed of the river being so close together, it was the same as if we were just leisurely going through, instead of going the regular speed we usually traveled. BY THE SPECIAL MASTER: Q But you didn't tow up? A No sir, I never towed on the river. THE SPECIAL MASTER: Strike out that last. BY MR. FARNSWORTH: Q I will the question. Did you at any time do |
