Show 7214 Shafer- D 5194 A Just a little, in small river boating. Q On what river? A On the Ohio river. THE SPECIAL MASTER: How old is he? BY MR. FARNSWORTH: Q How old are you, Mr. Shafer. A I am sixty- one years old. Q After you built this raft, what did you do with it? A We had our cargo loaded on to it. Want me to describe the cargo? Q Just tell us the nature of it, briefly, just what it was, a general description. A We had a chest of carpenter tools, small trunks, and our bedding, an eight- by- ten tent, and material for a placer rocker; we had groceries, about one hundred pounds of flour and just ordinary groceries we would take into the country. Q Approximately what did your load weigh? A I would say it weighed at least five hundred pounds. Q You and your brother rode the raft down the river, did you? A Yes sir. Q Where was your objective? A Out destination was the mouth of Little Castle creek, just above Moab. Q Is that the same creek that is now ordinarily spoken of as Castle creek? |
