Show 7213 Shafer- D 5193 Q You are the postmaster at Moab, are you not? A Yes sir. Q Have been for how many year? A About twelve years. Q From what state did you come when you arrived in Utah? A We come from Nebraska -- Colorado; just a short time in Colorado, than on into Utah. Q When did you arrive in the section of the state in which you now reside? A It was in November, -- around about the 12th or 13th of November, in 1888. Q Am at what point on the river did you first come when you arrived at that time? A We built a raft at the mouth of Cisco wash, that is about thirty miles above Moab. Q On the Colorado river? A Yes sir. Q How large a raft did you built? A As near as I can remember, -- it has been forty- one years ago -- as near as I remember it was about six or seven feet wide, and about twelve feet long. Q Who was with you? A I had a brother, an older brother with me. Q In your boyhood days have you had any experience on rivers? |
