Show 4950 Edwards- D 2963 a bar that had formed since we had been there on the day previous. Q How many miles below the Shafer No. 1 did you go on this first trip? A to the John H. Shafer permit, which is about eight miles down the river, and came back part way by boat when we were stranded on a sandbar, and left the boat that night and walked into camp, close to a mile. The boat came up the next day, was able to get off after daylight. Q Did your work also take you above Shafer No. 1? A To the north line of those permits, which was about three miles. Q What I was trying to get at, how many miles altogether on the river? A About eleven miles the first trip down there. Q While you were there on this first trip did you have anything to do with this pipe line recognizance? A Only in looking over the part of the recognizance visible from the boats; I have gone over that with Mr. Cleary; over the balance of the line I didn't go. Q How did you go out the 25th of January? A On the big boat, the barge. Q Do you recall whether or not, on the trip up stream, you encountered any difficulties? |
